Press-fit zones

Press-fit zone contacts from Diehl Metal Applications (DMA) create reliable, solder-free connections between printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electromechanical components - perfectly tailored to the high demands of the automotive industry. Our portfolio includes validated press-fit zones that can be flexibly combined with customer-specific connector geometries.

Whether standard SPI pins with short delivery times, no tooling costs or customized solutions - DMA press-fit zone contacts offer clear advantages: no soldering defects, no flux residues, no thermal stress for components, fast and cost-efficient assembly, assembly on both sides and easy recycling by pressing out the pins.

We support you in developing complete solutions: from consulting for your applications to industrial production and product development.

Press-fit zones with a special surface

Depending on the requirements, special surfaces can be used for press-fit zones in addition to standard surfaces. The DMA Advanced Surfaces from Diehl Metall have been specially developed for the requirements of press-fit technology and offer maximum reliability in demanding applications.

The available special surfaces include DMA Advanced Indium and DMA Advanced SilverTin (AgSn). The electroplated coatings are characterized by excellent press-fit properties, high contact quality and a significantly reduced whisker risk. As a lead-free alternative to SnPb, they are suitable for modern, future-proof applications.

The DMA Advanced Surfaces are mechanically robust, fully process-compatible in further processing and designed for high-temperature and high-current applications. They meet all relevant legal requirements, including the End-of-Life Vehicle Directive 2000/53/EC, and are suitable for all press-fit technology applications.

Maximum performance in minimum space: high-speed & high-frequency applications

In addition, our specially developed press-fit zones enable a small overhang on the underside of the PCB. This creates the prerequisite for minimum installation heights with maximum signal and contact quality - ideal for high-speed and high-frequency data transmission in space-critical electronic assemblies.

Typical application examples for press-fit zones with special surfaces:

  • Control units (ECUs), e.g. for driver assistance systems, engine control or battery management
  • Radar and camera modules with high-frequency capable connections and minimal installation height
  • Power electronics for e-mobility, e.g. inverters and converters with high current carrying capacity
  • Telematics and communication modules with a high data rate and compact design
  • Industrial sensors and actuators for robust, vibration-resistant connections in harsh environments
  • Safety-critical systems such as whisker-sensitive airbag or brake systems
