long-range air defence (LRAD)

IRIS-T SLX represents the next logical step of the combat-proven air defence system IRIS-T SLM. The technological evolution is most evident in the extended range of the ITAR-free IRIS-T SLX interceptor, enabling the system to engage threats at distances of up to 80 km.

An IRIS-T SLX Fire Unit is comprised of several launchers, radar and a Common Tactical Operations Center (CTOC). It shields critical infrastructure — and even entire cities — from airborne threats, whether they come from enemy aircraft, helicopters or cruise missiles. In developing the IRIS-T SLX missile, special care was taken of a seamless integration into an existing IRIS-T SLM fire unit. This compatibility paves the way for future mixed SLM/SLX loadings, fully in line with the uncompromising principle of “tailored to YOUR mission”.

This advanced air defence solution offers more than just range: it provides a holistic approach to protection and integration performance with next-generation technology. IRIS-T SLX delivers future-ready, scalable protection designed to evolve alongside with shifting strategic requirements.

The fire unit

Launcher (up to 8)

Mounted on a 20-foot ISO container, the Launcher can be deployed up to 20 km from the Common Tactical Operations Center (CTOC), it is network-capable and remotely controllable. Offering a full 360° protection it can engage multiple threats simultaneously with eight missiles. KEY FEATURE: Mixed Loading – the next-generation launcher is designed to support a combined SLM/SLX loadout.

CTOC (Common Tactical Operation Center)

The Common Tactical Operations Center (CTOC) supplies air-space surveillance, threat analysis, and fire control. Multiple workstations enable mission planning within a protected environment. Thanks to its multi-data-link capability, the Fire Unit can operate in a networked configuration, allowing simultaneous coordination of several SLS, SLM, and SLX launchers. CTOC evolution delivers a fully integrated layered air defence platform — augmented with extra workstations, fully NATO interoperable, but also adaptable to national requirements to ensure seamless integration into national air defence structures.

Radar (e.g. Hensoldt TRML-4D)

The multifunctional TRML-4D 3D AESA C-Band Radar, equipped with an integrated IFF system, delivers 360° coverage with a range of up to 250 km and an elevation angle of a full 90° angle. Additional advantages include Track-While-Scan (TWS) capability and the ability to track rockets, artillery, and mortar rounds (RAM). It is also mounted on a 20-foot ISO container, enabling mobile air-space surveillance with rapid redeployment.

Reloader & Support (MSC, MWC)

A fleet of Reload and Support Vehicles complements the Fire Unit, enabling rapid re-arming and swift operational readiness – even in difficult terrain or when maintaining covert positions. Equipped with a mobile maintenance team, a workshop container and a spare-parts depot, these vehicles provide all necessary tools and specialized equipment for field repair. Operating autonomously for 90 days, they ensure uninterrupted service and quick response to any downtime, allowing the system to remain self-sufficient and highly adaptable while maintaining the element of surprise.

Interceptor

The Interceptor IRIS-T SLX

This next-generation missile extends the IRIS-T family’s range to 80 km with a 25 km altitude coverage. It offers an imaging-IR-seeker and smokeless propulsion that lock every target with pinpoint accuracy. Furthermore IRIS-T SLX lets operators update or abort missions in real time via an uplink. All of this is housed in a durable STLC (Storage Transport and Launch Canister): that guarantees 30-plus-years of service life. The IRIS-T SLX is the ultimate evolution for any armed force that demands deeper range, razor-sharp and outstanding precision, as well as long-term sustainability – fully integrated in an existing IRIS-T SLM Fire Unit: Minimal adjustments – maximum air superiority boost. ITAR-free.
