Position Strengthening in Explosive Ordnance Pre-Investigation

Diehl Defence is expanding its market position in the field of explosive ordnance pre-investigation through the acquisition of Luftbilddatenbank Dr. Carls GmbH via its existing subsidiary, Tauber Group.

With this acquisition, Diehl Defence is complementing its value chain: while the Tauber Group focuses on comprehensive expertise in geophysical detection, recovery, defusing, and professional disposal of explosive ordnance, as well as technically demanding civil engineering, Luftbilddatenbank Dr. Carls GmbH deepens this spectrum by adding the essential phase of preliminary investigation.

Based in Lower Franconia, the company is a market leader in the procurement and evaluation of historical aerial imagery and records used to identify unexploded ordnance in Germany and Austria. Its range of services includes the investigation of potential explosive ordnance contamination, historical aerial imagery research —including the procurement of international archival material — as well as related consulting and training services.

Luftbilddatenbank Dr. Carls GmbH, which currently employs around 80 people in Germany and Austria, will continue to operate as an independent company with its own management within Diehl Defence. It will complement the Tauber Group, which has been part of Diehl Defence since 2025.
