Diehl Defence lays foundation stone for innovation and development center

Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence, together with Dr. Nils Schmid, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defence, Jan Zeitler, Mayor of the city of Überlingen, and other invited guests, gave the symbolic starting signal for an extension at the company's headquarters in Überlingen on Lake Constance at a foundation stone laying ceremony. 

Diehl Defence constructs a new building in Überlingen in the immediate vicinity of the existing premises. After completion, which is expected by the end of 2027, this new building will offer workplaces for around 500 employees. This urgently needed capacity will help Diehl Defence to cope with the company's forecast growth in the coming years as a result of the increased demand from customers – such as the German Armed Forces – for defence technology goods. As a further innovation and development center of Diehl Defence, technologies and products for the modern battlefield will also originate from here in the future. 

Diehl Defence's new construction activities were made possible in cooperation with the city of Überlingen, which sold its plot of land called "Alte Straßenmeisterei" to the company for this purpose in 2023. 

Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence, said: "The number of employees in Überlingen has more than doubled since 2022. The new building will also enable us to cope with the further increase in personnel, which will contribute to the performance of Diehl Defence and thus to the defence capability of the Federal Republic of Germany." 

State Secretary Dr. Schmid recognized Diehl Defence's investment: "Diehl Defence’s products in the field of air defence make an important contribution to Germany's defence ability. In doing so, you are helping to protect our way of life, which is based on peace and freedom." 

Mayor of the city of Überlingen, Jan Zeitler, commented: "I would like to thank Diehl Defence for its clear commitment to Überlingen as a location. With this new investment, the company continues to contribute to strengthening our business location, combined with the sustained creation of highly qualified jobs and apprenticeships."
