Diehl Defence holds opening ceremony for “Battery Tech Hub”

Diehl Energy Products (DEP), a subsidiary of Diehl Defence, held an opening ceremony for its new
production facility at its Röthenbach location today. With the “Battery Tech Hub”, the company is
significantly expanding its manufacturing capacity for special batteries — a key component for the

Diehl Energy Products (DEP), a subsidiary of Diehl Defence, held an opening ceremony for its new production facility at its Röthenbach location today. With the “Battery Tech Hub”, the company is significantly expanding its manufacturing capacity for special batteries — a key component for the functionality of modern missiles, fuzes, and defence systems. The ceremony was attended by Minister of the Interior of the state of Bavaria Joachim Herrmann, as well as numerous distinguished guests from politics, business, government agencies, the German Armed Forces, and the Diehl Group.

Diehl Defence laid the cornerstone for the building in February 2024. The new facility comprises approximately 7,000 square meters of space for manufacturing, development, and logistics, as well as approximately 3,700 square meters of office space, and accommodates over 180 DEP employees. Since global demand for special batteries grew faster than anticipated at the start of planning, an additional expansion area was constructed alongside the main building. This made it possible to significantly increase production capacity for igniter and thermal batteries even during the construction phase.

Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence, said during the inauguration ceremony: “With the Battery Tech Hub, we are strengthening a key component of our air defence systems and ammunition. This investment demonstrates that we are a reliable partner and that we are growing alongside our customers’ needs. I would like to extend my special thanks to the Bavarian State Government for its support, as well as to all my colleagues who planned and implemented this project with great dedication.” A decisive factor in the project’s rapid implementation was the “Bavarian Act on the Promotion of the Defense Industry,” which facilitated construction through streamlined approval procedures.

Environmental standards were also consistently implemented. The building uses efficient heat pumps for heating and cooling to minimize energy consumption and will be equipped with a photovoltaic system in the future. As part of the construction work, targeted nature conservation measures were also implemented, including reforestation, the creation of habitats for sand lizards, and the installation of nesting boxes for bats and birds.

With the inauguration of the DEP building, Diehl Defence is continuing its comprehensive investment strategy, which is part of a corporate-wide 1.5 billion euro program aimed at further developing all of its locations.
