Diehl Aviation Wins Crystal Cabin Award for Accessibility Innovation “AURS”
Diehl Aviation has received the Crystal Cabin Award in the Accessibility category for AURS – the Adaptive User Routing System – at this year's ceremony held during the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. The recognition places Diehl Aviation among the leading voices in inclusive aviation design and marks the company's second consecutive Crystal Cabin Award win in the Accessibility category, following the "Space3" innovation that took the trophy in 2025.
AURS establishes a new standard for inclusive lavatory design by turning the aircraft lavatory into a space that passengers with visual or hearing impairments can navigate with confidence. The concept brings together an accessibility-focused lavatory layout and a smart digital layer that adjusts to individual passenger needs. High-contrast surfaces, tactile guidance elements, Braille labeling and distinctively shaped controls support intuitive orientation throughout, while safety announcements are shown visually on an integrated mirror screen – ensuring that critical information reaches every passenger, regardless of whether they can hear it. Adaptive lighting and optional audio cues provide additional support for those with low vision.
What sets AURS apart is how it was developed: the concept was co-created with direct input from travelers with sensory impairments, ensuring real-world needs shaped every design decision. "Winning the Crystal Cabin Award in the accessibility category for the second year running is a tremendous honor – but what truly drives us is the impact AURS can have for passengers who deserve the same level of comfort, dignity and independence as anyone else on board," said Jörg Schuler, CEO of Diehl Aviation.
Built on Diehl Aviation's established connected-cabin technology platform, the system is currently deployed as a technology demonstrator in active trials with accessibility groups. This underscores Diehl Aviation's commitment to going beyond regulatory minimums and setting a new industry standard for inclusive cabin design.
