Diehl Aviation Opens New Production Facility in Romania
Diehl Aviation today officially inaugurated its new production facility in Craiova, Romania. The site strengthens Diehl Aviation’s European production network and provides additional manufacturing capacity for commercial aircraft programs. The facility will manufacture various aircraft cabin and systems components for commercial aircraft and becomes an integral part of Diehl Aviation’s production footprint alongside its operations in Germany, Hungary and Mexico.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by partners, employees and representatives of German and Romanian public institutions, including Angela Ganninger, the German Ambassador to Romania, Lia-Olguta Vasilescu, the Mayor of the city of Craiova, and Cosmin Dorin Casile, the President of the Dolj County Council.
Developed and completed in less than one year, the new facility covers more than 12,000 square meters of production and office space on a 33,500 square meter plot. Backed by a mid-double-digit million euro investment from Diehl Aviation, the site represents a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy. Production is scheduled to start in autumn 2026. Around 75 employees will support the initial operational phase, with plans to expand the workforce to up to 500 employees in the medium term. The site has been designed to accommodate future expansion if required.
The Craiova facility in the Dolj region will initially manufacture established products already in serial production within Diehl Aviation’s manufacturing network, including manually laminated composite cabin components, insulation blankets and tanks for aircraft water and waste systems. Production will be transferred together with established processes, industrial know-how and quality standards from existing sites.
To support the start of production, employees started extensive training in aerospace manufacturing, quality management and safety requirements in February this year. The Craiova operation will apply the same standards and processes used throughout Diehl Aviation’s global manufacturing network. The building and production infrastructure have been fully electrified, eliminating the use of natural gas as an energy source. A rooftop photovoltaic system, currently under implementation, will further increase the share of renewable electricity used on site and reduce Diehl Aviation’s carbon footprint.
As a Tier‑1 supplier and systems integration partner, Diehl Aviation develops and manufactures cabin and aircraft systems for commercial aviation. The new site will support customer ramp-ups through additional capacity and manufacturing flexibility within its international production network.
Romania offers a strong industrial base and access to highly skilled talent. To support future growth, Diehl Aviation is establishing partnerships with regional universities and educational institutions to develop engineering and manufacturing expertise for the aerospace sector.
The company also intends to foster local supplier and service-provider structures around the site, contributing to the long-term development of the regional aerospace ecosystem.
The facility was developed in cooperation with Global Vision, whose local expertise contributed significantly to the realization of the project.
Jörg Schuler, CEO Diehl Aviation: “The opening of our Craiova facility marks an important milestone for Diehl Aviation. I would like to thank the Romanian authorities, our partner Global Vision and everyone involved for their support throughout the project. The new facility expands our manufacturing capabilities and strengthens our ability to support customers worldwide with the quality, reliability and delivery performance they expect from Diehl Aviation.”
Together with its sites in Germany, Hungary and Mexico, the Craiova facility further strengthens Diehl Aviation’s international production network and supports the company’s long-term growth strategy.
