20 Years of Innovation in Rostock
From an Engineering Center to an Established Development Site for the Aviation Industry
At the beginning of September, Diehl Aviation’s development site in Rostock celebrates its 20th anniversary. What began in 2006 with just under 20 employees has evolved over the past two decades into an established engineering site that today provides 35 high-tech jobs. The Rostock team has become an integral part of the company’s development network, contributing its expertise to the development of modern aviation systems.
The engineers in Rostock work on a broad range of solutions for avionics, cabin, and lighting systems for civil and military aviation programs on behalf of Diehl Aerospace, a joint venture with the French company Thales. From software and hardware development to systems engineering, project management, and design engineering, the site brings together expertise across the entire development process. As a result, the expertise based in Rostock contributes to aircraft programs of leading manufacturers around the world.
One of the site’s distinguishing features is its versatility. While other development sites primarily specialize in individual technology fields, the Rostock team combines expertise in avionics and cabin systems under one roof. This broad technological scope has played a key role in the site’s successful development over the past two decades.
At the same time, Diehl has strong ties to the Rostock region and has worked closely with the University of Rostock and other higher education institutions since the site was established. Internships, thesis projects, and working student positions give young talent the opportunity to gain early insights into the aviation industry and build their professional future in the region.
Even after 20 years, the Rostock site remains on a growth trajectory. Driven by its positive development and growing demand for aviation technologies, Diehl is expanding its capacities in the Hanseatic city. Additional space for offices and development environments will create room for more jobs and new projects. With these investments, the company is laying the foundation for further growth and preparing the site to meet the future demands of the aviation industry.
