Unique agility for mobile air defence

Designed for the protection of troops, high-value-assets and self-defence applications, the combat-proven IRIS-T SLS provides a highly mobile short-range air defence (SHORAD) system for operation in dynamic threat environments. It delivers an effective intercept range of up to 12 km and altitude coverage up to 6 km.

The system architecture combines a launcher module, integrated sensor suite and network-enabled command and control (C2). The launcher is equipped with two to four quad-packs, each of which can be loaded with up to four missiles.

The system can be operated standalone, or fully integrated into national air defence networks. Thus, it provides the ideal complement to the IRIS‑T SLM medium-range air defence system.

MODULAR SYSTEM DESIGN: CARRIER VEHICLE INDEPENDENT

The IRIS-T SLS system is built on a carrier vehicle-independent and modular system architecture. Based on a standardized 15-ft ISO container interface, the system can be integrated onto compatible carrier vehicles and adapted to national and industrial requirements. The modular system design allows configuration as an all-in-one SHORAD solution or as additional launcher module, depending on operational needs. This architecture also enables the integration of additional sensors and effectors, including C-UAS capabilities (e.g. eMissile CICADA) or remote weapon stations.

Combat-proven with existing missile system

The IRIS-T SLS system employs the same IRIS-T air-to-air missile, enabling the use of existing missile stocks. The use of the identical missile design for air-to-air and ground-to-air operations represents a cost-effective way of leveraging existing inventories while simplifying logistics and lifecycle management. For operational flexibility, the missile software is installed during the loading process on the vehicle-independent launcher. By leveraging combat-proven interceptors and automated system operation, IRIS-T SLS delivers high operational efficiency with minimal integration effort and reduced personnel requirement.

The Interceptor IRIS-T SLS

The IRIS-T SLS interceptor is a combat-proven guided missile providing a highly agile and reliable short-range air defence capability. Using the identical air-to-air configuration and hardware, it enables a cost-effective way of using existing missile stocks while requiring minimal integration effort. Its imaging infrared seeker and nearly smokefree propulsion unit deliver precise terminal hits with highest hit probability. An uplink allows target data to be updated or missions to be aborted in real time throughout flight. Within the IRIS-T SLS system, the interceptor enables effective engagement ranges up to 12 km and altitude coverages of up to 6 km.
